Training & Background

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp). I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Northeastern State University and my Master’s degree in community counseling from Oklahoma State University.

After completing my studies, I had the opportunity to complete an internship at an addiction treatment center for women and children, which allowed me to work with women who were seeking to improve their own lives and those of their children.

In 2007, I joined the team at Laureate, a psychiatric hospital located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During my 8+ years there, I worked in various different settings, including in admissions and as a primary therapist on the adolescent unit.

Later on, my family and I moved abroad to Peru where we spent three years living and exploring South America. After returning to the U.S., I moved to Kansas City and joined the team at InSight Counseling, LLC in 2018. As that practice has now closed its doors as a group practice, I am thrilled to be a part of the BeyondWell team! I find that collaborating and working as part of a treatment team is incredibly fulfilling.

Approach

I am mainly a relationship-centered therapist who utilizes CBT, DBT, and ACT modalities.

I am also a Health at Every Size (HAES) practitioner can also work within a Christian framework for those desiring that lens.

Specialization(s)

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with adults, adolescents, and their families across multiple treatment settings and modalities. I often engage in family work with the adolescents I see, including sibling sessions, as the entire family is often affected by a loved one’s eating disorder. I have experience in individual, family, and group therapy, as well as parent coaching and meal support.  I also work with individuals struggling with negative body image, anxiety, and depression.
